How to Stay Active on National Senior Citizens Day
Beverly Hills Carmel provides an independent living space for seniors in the area that fosters independence for senior citizens. We believe in giving our residents the services and amenities that they need to keep them active and engaged. To this end, the staff at Beverly Hills Carmel wanted to suggest four fun ideas to help seniors in our area enjoy National Senior Citizen Day this August.
Create a Family Tree
This is a great way to enjoy time together as a family. The history of a family is an important part of the legacy for many families. Working on a family tree project is the perfect way to spend time now with family, build memories, and preserve your family legacy for the future. Many families use their family tree to share photos and stories with the younger generations so they can be remembered, shared and preserved.
Enjoy a Night on the Town
Many establishments provide seniors with discounts, specials and savings year-round, but some offer extra special discounts especially for National Senior Citizens Day. You can take friends and family for a fun night on the town enjoying good food at restaurants, a movie at the theater, sales at shops and stores, and good times at museums and other attractions. Enjoy the celebration of yourself and others in your community with these great discounts and deals.
Parties with Friends and Family
Another way we here at Beverly Hills Carmel recommend our residents enjoy time with their friends and family is to have a party. Cook your favorite meal from childhood, have everyone bring their own dish potluck-style, have family bring photos and other keepsakes from the past, and enjoy time sharing old photos and memories. It’s a great way to reminisce and catch up with old family friends and it a good opportunity to share stories with the next generation as well.
Have a Game Night
A great way to celebrate National Senior Citizens Day whether it is here at our community center here at Beverly Hills Carmel or your own house is to have a game night. Invite your children and grandchildren to learn a new card game or have them teach you a new board game. This is a great way to spend time with family you might not get to see all that often and make memories with them. It also gives you the chance to engage your mind and keep it sharp.
